San Francisco Fire Dept.
Engine No. 2

460 Bush Street

San Francisco, CA

Built after the 1906 Earthquake and completed in 1908, San Francisco city architect Newton J. Tharpe designed Engine #2 in the orderly and symmetrical “City Beautiful” style to proclaim its civic importance, adding emblematic shields and prominent enscriptions to further enhance the claim. Faced in Vancouver Granite with windows flanked by ionic pilasters and a graceful balustrade roof, the stylish structure was the first thoroughly fireproof station built after 1906.  Pegasus Development acquired the building to rehab the interior, provide structural integrity and value to the San Francisco landmark. The property was later sold to an award winning architectural firm Carey & Company, a firm specializing in historic preservation.
